Viennaline

Udo Proksch, the eccentric killer.

Founded in the 1950s by Austrian Wilhelm Anger, already founder of the Carrera brand, ViennaLine is a brand entrusted to the flair of Udo Proksch, a brilliant eyewear designer with a histrionic and creative personality who, together with Anger, quickly created one of the most glamorous eyewear fashion houses in Europe, which between the 1960s and the 1990s offered frames with colorful lines with an unmistakable vintage taste. The choice of the name ViennaLine is not accidental: in the 1950s it was one of the coolest spots in the world, an ideal stage that became a great springboard for the brand’s models. Optyl, an innovative material invented by Anger that is light and strong, revolutionizes the world of eyewear, and the brand sells more than 15 million pieces. ViennaLine’s sophisticated and luxurious designs are often embellished with silver filigree decorations, small stones and details ranging from baroque to delicate art nouveau curves. ViennaLine succeeds in creating a timeless, glamorous style with a retro flair. But in 1977 Udo Proksch fell from grace: he killed six people with a bomb hidden on a boat in an attempt to defraud his insurance company, and in 1991 he was discovered and sentenced to life imprisonment: he died in prison, and this tragic event marked the end of this glorious brand for good.

When it is available, we provide Viennaline vintage glasses with their own original case, except for those that have deteriorated over time.
