Marwitz

The Marwitz family name has been part of German eyewear manufacturing history for more than 100 years and continues as such to this day with its third generation.
Marwitz & Hauser GmbH was founded in 1919 in the town of Aalen, near Stuttgart, and although ownership passed to Carl Zeiss in the 1960s, the founder kept collaborating with the company.
In the 40s, the “Comfort” collection was very popular, with its thin metal frame much in demand at the time and then back in vogue in more recent decades.
The metal production was very successful even in the 60s and 70s, when the frames were enriched with golden and silver laminations, or with celluloid inserts.

In the 1970s Hans-Joachim Marwitz founded “Conquistador Marwitz Berlin,” the contemporary evolution of this historic brand. The exuberance and originality of the descendant of the Marwitz family can be appreciated from their website’s welcoming phrase: “And here we present the ‘Conquistador’ frame: leave your troubles behind…is life disappointing? Let it go! Our frames are beautiful, each made with enthusiasm and passion, and our service is the best. Ooh, can’t believe it? Try them on!”
